My blog is clean again

Combatwoundedveteran - Lead poisoning and distortion

Thanks for the concern, guys. I have things pretty much back to normal after the malware incident (the cdpuvbhfzz hack), I just have to redesign my gallery. Coppermine was the cause of the problem, although I’m not sure exactly what it was. Anyone using the Coppermine Gallery script should check out the support forums as soon as possible, because even those with up-to-date scripts are being hit with this thing and you need to get the fix (if they even have one yet).

There was a straight edge documentary on National Geographic two nights ago and it was hilarious. Apparently, straight edge kids are classified as “gang members” in certain cities, and are monitored by the Gang Unit of the police force. This is only in lame places like Salt Lake City and Reno, but still – it is unacceptable the way the cops treat them. Instead of singling out the hardline guys who kick the shit out of drunks and frat boys, the cops just grouped all straight edge people together… as if straight edge, by itself, is a violent idea – and then to actually classify anyone with an X on their hand as a potential terrorist!? shocked It’s just absurd.

The documentary was especially funny because of the way they narrated it, referring to straight edge kids in odd ways that I’ve personally never heard, even though I’ve been drug free since I was 15 years old. I am embarrassed to think that others will watch this doc and base their opinion on straight edge on what they saw.

Anyway, it wasn’t just a bunch of “bad press” like I made it sound (though there were a lot of morons interviewed). They remained pretty objective, and it had some interesting parts like when they were filming in Boston, which has an awesome hardcore scene, of course.

I saw a clip online about the “Hammered” organization at BU or Northeastern… and apparently there are only about a handful of members and most of the people at the bowling alley were just there to take up space. Totally shitty. I expected more along the lines of actually finding sxe bands and filming them (but maybe they did and I just missed it?).

Claire: straight edge is just a term that some people who are drug free refer to themselves as. It’s a sort of scene within the hardcore community, and also a life-choice. People who are straight edge do not take drugs (including cigarettes and alcohol) and they lead a generally healthy, poison-free lifestyle. You can read up on the history of it over at wikipedia.

    Claire.

You make me sigh, in a bad way.

I used to know all about the SLC CxC murder, but I forgot everything because I deemed it unimportant.

I think I’ll soon find out if her hands are experts in other things than textmsging :)
I think Straight Edge is a really good lifestyle and I admire people who stick to it,they are really strong.
Too bad that they are treated like that at some places – here in Germany the term isn’t even widely known so I think it’s not that much of a “problem”…

Yeah. Go after the emo kids who are drug free. That’s definitely of the highest importance.

I was straight edge until I hit 21. Can’t really say that now, since I drink, but I still avoid smoking. And, although I’m a virgin, it doesn’t mean that I don’t think about sex. thinking

That program indeed sounds very amusing, and interesting.

It’s always a small group of ne’er-do-wellers that wrongly associate themselves with a group or subculture that get all the publicity and end up giving that group/subculture a bad rap.

I don’t know if that made sense, so here are some examples:

When one thinks of Pagans and Witches, they think of Satan-worshiping people who sacrifice animals and put hexes on people. This is partially due to lies put forth by the Christian church, but also because a few stupid people have done bad things in the name of Paganism, and unfortunately, that’s what stands out to people. MOST Pagans and Witches are peaceful, nature-loving people who’s only “spells” are done for gain, protection, happiness, or prosperity. The Wiccan Rede (our “code of ethics” if you will) state, “Do what thou wilt, and harm ye none.”
