Violent Femmes!
Justin and I went to Thursday at the Square, which is basically this free concert thing held every Thursday during the summer months in Buffalo’s downtown. Today Violent Femmes played (and some other lame band) and it was just packed. How many people would want to see a bunch of guys in their 40s and 50s playing 80s music? A lot, apparently! I didn’t know what to expect so it was an experience. White collar, Yacht-club types, mixed with raver kids, scenesters, old folks and a crapload of slutty college girls. We even saw some dude puking his brains out, within the first hour of being there.
I was the only one drinking soda, I swear, everyone else had a beer in their hand.
Justin knew his friend Dave and his girlfriend were going to be there, so we met up with them and just sort of stood around for an hour. They’re both really nice, I was a little shy at first. Then when we moved a little closer to the stage, (by “closer” I mean I was still unable to see the band’s faces clearly), Justin saw some of his old friends from his hometown and I took their picture (well, one of them!). From the left to the right: Justin, Jordan, Dave. Justin looks like Mr. Spock
Anyway, I had a good time but I was a little grumpy. My feet really hurt and there were too many assholes shoving their way through the crowd. As a matter of fact, Justin had a little confrontation with one of those said assholes. This dude pushed Justin out of the way when we wouldn’t let him through, so Justin pushed him back and they both stood there staring at each other for a moment, grimacing. I was secretly hoping something would happen. A fight would have made the night even better.
Anyway, I have some crappy pictures uploaded to my gallery if anyone is curious.

I replied to your comment at my site, you dirty comment plugger.
I love you. Stop jumping to conclusions!
- Brent
Heh, they look totally retro!
It’s great that you had an excellent time. I’ve not been to a concert in months…I sound like an old lady.
Hope your feet feel better soon!
- Ramsha
I actually love you more than 99% of my blogroll combined, but good try on the misguided passive aggression!
- Brent
I love going to concerts, but it really does suck when there is so many people and you have to stand the whole time.
People can be really pushy too! Well I hope you still had fun!
- Sam
Those free concerts sound really cool. It seems like a fun time you had with some of Justin’s friends. And ooh there was excitement too! Your boyfriend and some asshole almost got into a fight. DRAMA!!! OOOH!
- Val
The concert sounds cool except that there are a LOT of people. A lot of people do love retro. :))
Whee! An unexopected reunion! I’m glad you had fun!
Anwyay, my site is back-up now.

Meh I need to get my cheap lazy ass to a concert sometime soon… I haven’t been since, like, the fall.
But it sounds like you had a good time, except for your feet hurting. When I saw Belle and Sebastian last year, my shoulders hurt like a BITCH because of the bag I was holding. Which didn’t stop me from having a kick-ass time (I got to meet them) but still!

I’m always a sucker for a good fight. I suppose I just like violence (minus fatal violence).
I wish they did something like that around here. We only have a farm fair every summer. Which I refuse to go to. It makes me feel like a hick.
- Ashley
eww. but yay for ur soda! lol. i cant say im one for fites… reminds me too much of tv scenes, which usually ends bloody. lol.
its so boring where i live… an unexpected crowd or not, its great aht u had fun!
- Jade
lmao! violent femmes? thats hilarious!
glad you hade a good time :)
- lisa
the concert sounds pretty cool! they host warped tour here every year, so i suppose that’s pretty similar. :P
- Sydney
actually, it’s not similar to warped tour. it’s free, and it’s every week, not once in the summer. every major city has warped tour somewhere near it, and that includes buffalo.
but what good is warped tour anymore?
- justin
Oh, that’s awesome! Free concert in the middle of the city every week? Pretty cool. And I’m all about confrontation. I would’ve died of laughter if Justin had kicked his ass or something. Stupid tards.
- Christina
Heyyyyyyy! Whats wrong with 80s music! It’s great! I was born in 89 so I’ll stick witht he fact that I’m an 80s guy and will say I’m proud of the music hahaha.
It’s always the way at converts; being pushed about and stuff. I find it funny that you’d like there to have been a fight even though yo loverboy would have been involved HAHA!
xxx
- Matt
Free concert? Awesomeness. What a variety of people.. and you wanted a fight? o.O Hahaha. Was it that dull?
- Lav
ha you wanted your boyfriend to get into a fight… you’re excellent, hostess.
i remember the violent femmes from wayyy back when. my friends who were in a band covered one of their songs i think when we were in high school. weird, i thought they disappeared.
free summer concerts are usually amusing… even if the bands aren’t who you want to see.
- felina
I like the 80’s, I probably would have been one of those people there.
I’ll go check out the pictures in your gallery.
- GG
You are right, lol. Your friend does look a bit like Mr. Spock and looks cool! :) Glad to hear that you had a good time even though there were morons around. I’ve never been to a free band concert before, but I would imagine that it is a very unforgettable experience. I should go to one someday..
- Sarah
Lemme just say that nothing short of a fight could make a Violent Femmes concert anything resembling tolerable.
Justin in a fight at a Violent Femmes concert would have bumped it from “tolerable” to “awesome”.
- cass
Haha old people can be very scary when they feel rejuvenated! Oh damn i must admit i love some 80’s songs hehe
Cool blog =)
