July 4th Recap
To be honest, I haven’t updated because I didn’t want to write another Michael Jackson post, and that was all that had been on my mind. I found this old MJ book from my childhood and it’s been sitting on my dresser ever since, making me feel so depressed over the whole story. I’ve been feeling a lot better these past few days, but still I wasn’t shocked to find out that over a dozen fans have killed themselves since Michael’s death. It’s extreme to do something like that, but I understand how hopeless you can feel when a part of your youth just dies like that and if you’re already hopeless to begin with, well it could probably be too much to deal with.
Last night we went to see the fireworks downtown by the harbor. We went the previous year and it was really bad, but we decided to go again because we’re suckers. There were so many people and it was hard to find a place to put our blanket down. There was a stage and some terrible band was playing when we arrived. They started talking in between songs and we came to learn that they are from Canada. Umm, why would you have a Canadian band play at a 4th of July festival? I just thought that was odd. I mean… plus they kept playing Beatles covers… can you picture that? A Canadian band playing British pop songs on America’s day of independence?
It was truly hilarious.
When the time came for the actual fireworks display, we were excited. That excitement drained away when we started seeing large gaps in the show where there were no lights in the sky at all. The finale was a very lame 30 seconds and the entire display lasted a grand total of like 7 minutes. It was a very pathetic attempt at a fireworks display, but I don’t want to write about anymore of that because it pisses me off.

Haha… Gotta say, that makes me less annoyed with myself that I didn’t do ANYTHING on July 4. Oh, Buffalo. That being said, though, last year I was in D.C. for the fireworks and they STILL blew. I think I’m always disappointed by fireworks. Maybe b/c when I was younger they just seemed so much cooler?

Wow, I hadn’t heard that fans were killing themselves over his death :/. I guess I understand why but still it’s sad that people are so confused that they resort to stuff like that over a person they don’t even really know dying.
Haha, that is really funny about that band playing on 4th of July. I guess they couldn’t find anyone better? lol. & yeah I’d be upset over a fireworks show like that but the ones in my area are about the same. I’m actually glad I had to work until 11 that night xD. Last year I had to fight insane traffic to see the lousiest fireworks ever :/.

Hahaha!! Globalisation eh? Doesn’t spare Independence days also.
And people killed themselves over MJ? Sad.
He wouldn’t have wanted that.

I get frustrated with the whole MJ thing. Has everyone forgotten that he molested little boys? Little CANCER boys?
Did we all just forget that happened? Yeah?

Hey Ashley, would you like to go to church to learn about God and then go for a McDonald’s hamburger? ha, ha. Or how about a steak, or barbecue? Maybe after you’ve finished reading the Bible from cover to cover and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior so that you can avoid a fiery hell that lasts forever then you can live in peace. Your generation (born 1980’s and up) is the “lost” generation, only 4% of your generation are Evangelical Christians. I’m 35. Do you care what happens to you when you die? Would you enjoy a steak sandwich?

ashley, you should inform yourself of the circumstances before you jump to conclusions.
michael was never convicted of molestation. it was common knowledge that the mother who originally came forward with allegations that her son was molested had attempted to extort other well-to-do individuals, and had been arrested for shoplifting (which later resulted in her attempt to sue the mall security that apprehended her).
los angeles area police, after this case was settled out of court (to prevent further damage to michael’s image), then urged the public by virtually every media source available (including the internet) to have anyone come forward if there was any contact or were any circumstances surrounding their children and michael jackson that concerned them as a result of the prior allegations made against him, which remained unsubstantiated and highly improbable.
long story short; media outlets let this story break, because we all know what publicity can do for a media outlet. apparently it’s easier to forget the idea of being “innocent until proven guilty” and let the accused remain in limbo, it’s the way of the world, right? or in your case, i suppose it’s just easier to hop on the bandwagon and sling shit at a great american pop icon whose many misfortunes resulted in his falling from glory and eventual death.

I can’t believe that people have killed themselves because of MJ’s death. Well I guess I can believe it, but it’s crazy. I hope that I’m never that unstable with my life.
Your firework display sounds just as disappointing as the ones we had here on Natal Day (Halifax’s birthday, NS, Canada). There were huge gaps in between the sets also AND they didn’t even HAVE a finale. I was just disappointed lol.
