Allergies!
Oh man, I just had a scary experience with an antibiotic. I felt like I was getting a UTI (ouch, I know) so I took these pills my doctor prescribed a long time ago. They were expired, but I’d read that medicine is often good way past the expiration date. Well, less than an hour after taking one pill, I suddenly couldn’t breathe. I felt like my lungs “tickled” and my throat closed up and I kept coughing and coughing. I was on the phone at the time with my mom and I was just really surprised that I felt sick all of a sudden for what seemed like no reason. Well then like 2 minutes later, I’m still coughing, and my face starts to burn and gets really hot. I looked in the mirror and my face was bright red with patches all the way down my neck, and was super warm to the touch. Then I just felt an overall “sickness” feeling, like my stomach was upset and I was going to throw up.
I hung up with my mom and called Justin and we figured it must be because I haven’t really eaten anything substantial today, and I had taken the pill on an empty stomach. So I made a grilled cheese sandwich really fast and drank a glass of water. I started feeling a little better, and could breathe again.
Well I just did a search for the drug I took, it’s called Cefaclor, and apparently 10% of people allergic to Penicillin are also allergic to this type of antibiotic. Well, lucky me - I am allergic to Penicillin, and I must be one of the 10% also allergic to this stupid pill. This would explain the hives, the trouble breathing, the itching and the queasy feeling. Yikes!
I actually took these pills just a few weeks ago when I had an ear infection (yeah, I self-diagnose since I’ve had chronic ear infections my entire life). Maybe I didn’t notice a reaction because I was already coughing and feverish?
I am still really scared because the rash is still on my face and now my eyeballs are feeling “weird”… I hope everything is better by morning, because I have to travel for 8 hours on a stupid bus tomorrow

Please feel better.

Ah, oh my gosh! That’s crazy serious! I’m glad you’re okay. I know if I were in that situation, I probably would have just freaked out and died. Good thing you’re smart! :)

oh my goodness, it’s been a long while since i last left you a comment. far too long, if i do say so myself, so now i am here to correct this mistake. *clears throat* here we go:
first off, lovely layout. i like the positioning of everything. :)
oh my gosh, i’m sorry that you had to go through that experience. having a uti is bad enough, but it’s another thing to have your medicine flip out on you. i’m that you’re feeling better, but i hope that you are back to feeling healthy and happy soon. *hug*

Wow you should really go to the doctor if you’re not feeling any better. Allergic reactions can be very dangerous. I hope you feel better soon, though.

Pills are scary! I freak the first time I take any pill. One time in high school I took too many anti-depressants (not even prescribed to me… dumb, I know) and got really scary sick, so even now I get panicky and have false symptoms sometimes. Once I also took an antibiotic that made me not want to eat but also made me throw up, which is not a good combo as you can imagine.
I really really love this site. One of the best layouts I’ve seen in awhile.
