A Fresh Start in 2008

At The Drive-In - Initiation

At least that is what I’m hoping for. Happy New Year! woohoo

To kick things off this new year, I’ve added a brand new theme. You should click here if you’re still seeing Mariah Carey. Also, I “retired” two of my older themes, so you won’t see those anymore. Anyway, I made a few resolutions for this year, I’ve listed them below.

  • Lose weight! This is at the top of the list, because I do not want to be self-conscious this summer like I was last. No more yo-yo dieting for me!
  • Get out more. I’ve been depressed for what seems like a year. My father says that I need to make an effort to overcome it, which means getting up earlier and forcing myself to go out.
  • Get in school. Stop dreaming and talking about it and just get there, already! Money can’t hold me back if I want it bad enough.
  • Post more often. This year will be my blog’s 4th anniversary, no slowing down now!
  • That’s it! I hope I can meet them, I know things can get busy but I will try not to make excuses. 2008 must be a constructive year for me! So out of curiosity, what is your #1 resolution this year?

I did the 100 Movie Challenge in ‘06, but forgot to do it last year, so I’m definitely doing it for ‘08. If you’re interested, you can participate also (the more, the merrier!) and we can link eachother as “fellow challengers”. Just leave me a comment or email me to be added.

More stuff you don’t care about!

Joshua Fit For Battle - Sleepwalkers Guide

I’ve been sick the past two days. gross I guess I’m off to a bad start this year.

Right now I’ve been feeling the urge to stretch my lobes again. I was at 13/16 inch, and downsized to 3/4 inch because my lobes were looking thin and I wanted to thicken them up. Well, I’ve been at 3/4 since August, and I’m going to be taking my jewelry out and letting them go down even further, probably to a 1/2 inch. Hopefully they will get that small, everyone’s body is different so you never know. I’ll stay at 1/2 inch for a few months and then start working my way back up. My ultimate goal is 1-1/4 inch, so I am downsizing to get more tissue in preparation for such a large size. When I was 9, my ears were pierced with a gun at a mall (please never get pierced with a gun!), and they were done a little too low and uneven, so now I struggle with a thin right lobe because of the poor placement. I am hoping downsizng and re-stretching will remedy the problem, and give me more tissue to work with for the future.

The idea is that when you stretch, there are tears in the skin on a microscopic level. The body produces collagen to fill in those tears, thus giving you more skin than you started with. If I downsize and re-stretch, with every stretch I do, I am gaining more tissue from the collagen being produced. The fatter the lobe, the easier it is to stretch, and the healthier the ear.

It is the same idea with a pregnant woman – her belly gets larger and the skin tears (sometimes resulting in stretch marks) and the body makes collagen and gives her more skin to cover the growing belly. Ever see a woman who’s had children and ended up with a lot of excess skin? Well, that’s my goal as far as downsizing my stretched ears. Wish me luck!

    Periods are so much fun.

Orchid - Death of a Modernist

Between binging on chocolate, popping Midol like it’s going out of style, and spending Christmas money on various absorbencies of tampons, I don’t know what I enjoy most about being female! But for serious: I still have that cold, so I’ve been extra miserable today.

On Tuesday I went grocery shopping (more “grown up” fun…) and did pretty well with staying away from things like bagels & cream cheese which totally make me overeat. I did get some stuff to make burritos (which I’ve been in the mood for) but got low-fat cheese and fat-free sour cream, hells yeah! I’m not exercising, but by eating way less, I’m still losing a bit of weight, even with all this bloating (I hate that word). Go me!

I’m now staying with my mom until early February, because Justin doesn’t work at Aeropostale anymore and he wants to be sure he has enough money before buying me a ticket home. I’m trying not to get in the way over here, but I think I’m an asshole magnet. Annoying people just seem to find me. The soundtrack in my head is on repeat and goes something like: “avoid confrontation. avoid confrontation. avoid confrontation.”

My days are really boring. I’m already looking forward to spring… isn’t that crazy? I feel like the cold just makes me lazy and dormant.

    I needed some fringe, folks.

The Mars Volta - Cut That City

Yesterday, I got my hair cut and it’s probably the shortest I’ve ever had it. It’s what I’d call “nipple length”, as in it stops right about where the nipples start. Quite the classy term, I know! I was doing the whole Mariah Carey/Orange County Housewives big-hair thing with side-swept bangs for a couple years, but they’d grow out so quick and then just seemed like short layers that I was just swooping to the side, and I hated pinning them out of my face whenever I was busy. So now I have these short, crazy/asymmetrical bangs:

And some layers throughout. I wanted really short layers on the side, so that when I put my hair in a ponytail I don’t look so “pulled together” and it can just hang there messy and cute. Yay spin I will update my cam image sometime soon. I have been wearing it blown-out and straight, but I am hoping it’ll look just as great with my natural waves.

I haven’t been updating my blog as much as I had planned to this year, or commenting on my friends and affiliates’ sites as much as I used to. I totally suck. blah

Today we took my mom’s cat, Trigger, to the SPCA to be neutered. I had to go with her because my mom is weird with directions and can’t get anywhere on her own. For some reason, she goes into anxiety mode when she’s somewhere she’s never been before. Anyway, we pick him up on Saturday. It’s snowing terribly though and it’s really piling up, so I hope by Saturday it will have subsided and we’ll be able to pick him up.

    So yeah… Heath Ledger died.

A housekeeper and a masseuse who stopped by for an appointment found him dead, laying face down in his apartment in NYC’s SoHo district. It is looking like an overdose because some pills were found by his body. I know he has a little girl… that’s really sad. I remember when I was 12, I had a 10 Things I Hate About You poster on my wall. I was a bit of a fan sad

In other news, my mom was walking her dog today and slipped on some ice and cracked her head on the pavement. She had to call the ambulance and they took her to the hospital and put two staples in her head. They had to shave a little spot, and it looks silly but other than that, she’s fine. It was really scary because there was so much blood. My Nana’s mother (my great-grandmother) died from a bad fall back in the 40s or 50s. Apparently she was bringing a pie to her neighbor, slipped on some ice and died a few days later from an infection of some sort. I was just telling my mom, a habitual “faller”, that she’d end up like Nana’s mom if she wasn’t careful, and sure enough… this happens.
