Disney Loves Tyranny

What is up with people my age watching Disney movies, listening to Radio Disney music, and idolizing child stars? If you need an example, I’m talking about High School Musical, Zack & Cody or Hannah Montana. Who the fuck is Zac Efron and the Jonas Brothers, and why do they keep getting featured on my celebrity news shows? Seriously, unless you are under the age of 13, you should not be watching or hearing anything that Disney promotes. It should be completely off your radar. Go upgrade to less-corny Degrassi or Gossip Girl and get on with your life. If you want to collect posters of Jesse McCartney and Miley Cyrus, or buy a soundtrack from a TV movie you better build a fucking time machine.

Precious minutes of Chelsea Lately are being devoted to these cheeseballs and their petty rivalries or “virginity status”. For sanity’s sake, Disney’s stronghold on celebrity gossip needs to stop!

Bye Bye Bernie

So Bernie Mac passed away today. I was very sad to hear this, since he was only 50 years old. sad It just seems like such a young age to die in these times. I have fond memories of watching my dad’s The Original Kings of Comedy DVD (Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, D.L. Hughley, and Cedric the Entertainer). Justin and I lived with my dad for a couple months when we weren’t yet on our feet, and we must have watched that DVD together 5 times. My dad is a Bernie fan and always did impersonations, such as the big crazy eyes and the “sumamabitch” thing Bernie always said, and of course his role in Bad Santa is still a quotable favorite. The whole thing is a shame. I guess he had a disease of some sort, because my father said he saw an interview years ago where Bernie was talking about it attacking his organs or something.

George Carlin just died like a month and a half ago, so it’s another bad year for comedy.

Anyway, I uploaded like 60 more songs to the radio and added some little facts/useless information to read through while you listen. Check it out if you’re bored. grin

Oh Archie!

Orchid - Dissidents in love

Everyday we watch an episode of All in the Family on TV Land, and laugh our asses off. My family always jokes that my Nana is a lot like Edith Bunker; her mannerisms are the same. Justin does terrible impressions of the Queens accent but that never stops him from doing them. My brother, on the other hand, does a very good Nana-impersonation. She has this thing where she uses the tiniest glasses to drink out of – like the size of a big shot glass. My mother’s nickname growing up was “chickie” (people in NJ still call her that) so Joey grabs the smallest glass around and says “Awwww Chickie, you wanna glassuh wawduh?“. It’s probably the funniest thing my brother can do while actually trying. I believe everybody has a character or two in their family tree.

We went shopping yesterday and ended up buying about $30 worth of cheese. It’s kind of ridiculous.

It’s Shark Week, people!

It’s been hot hot hot out lately. I am already looking forward to fall. On Sunday, I went to a tiny amusement park called Martin’s Fantasy Island. It caters to families and little kids more than adults, but I still had fun. Justin’s family is visiting from New Mexico (his uncle works and lives there), so it was a family thing. All together it was Justin, his uncle, his grandfather, two cousins, his grandfather’s wife, and me. I remembered to wear sunscreen this time, and am very happy.

It’s Shark Week on Discovery Channel. Justin and I are pretty excited – a response that’s pretty much coded in our nerd DNA. lmao Justin is scared to swim in the ocean because of these creatures, even though I assure him it is so rare and he can’t live in fear, and these shows either ease his fear or make it worse. Hopefully not the latter. Since he grew up here along the Great Lakes, far from the sea, he had never even seen the ocean. In fact, not until out trip to Spain in 2005 did he get to see or swim in the ocean. His first swim was at night, and he was convinced we’d be eaten by a shark or something. I wonder if all people born far inland have this fear of sharks and the ocean. I remember seeing the Jaws movies when I was 9 and being scared of sharks for about a month, but the fear evaporated once we actually hit the beach. Anyway, I hope Justin gets over it by next summer. I’m already counting down the months until we hit Italy & Greece! love
